Although there was a thundershower on Friday afternoon, the campsite was dry when the first wave of campers arrived that evening. The second wave showed up on Saturday.
We split up on Saturday. Some of us hiked in Jenny Jump along the Summit Trail, and the rest went swimming and sunbathing by Catfish Lake in the Mohican Outdoor Center. We reunited late Saturday afternoon and made dinner together. After dinner, some of us drove to Jenny Jump’s observatory where we watched a slide presentation entitled, "Solar System Phenomena." Then we peered through a telescope at the moon.
On Sunday, most of us drove to the Mohican Outdoor Center. Five of us hiked on the Rattlesnake-Swamp Trail to a ridge where we picked up the Appalachian Trail. We turned north on the AT for about half a mile, then turned around and went back to Catfish Lake. The hikers washed off their sweat in the lake and headed back to the campsite for dinner and another campfire.
Rain was predicted for Monday, so we packed up early. Some people left, and the rest took a short hike along the Summit Trail to another ridge overlooking a New Jersey valley. As hawks circled overhead, it began to rain. We headed back through the thick forest, hardly getting wet, and drove home.
